Digital Marketing Consultation — A Plan Before a Retainer

Most agencies open with a pitch. We open with a diagnosis. Forty-five minutes, your numbers on the table, and a straight answer about which channel deserves your budget first — including when the answer is "none of ours yet".

The most expensive mistake in digital marketing is not a badly run campaign. It is running the right campaign in the wrong channel for six months.

We have seen businesses spend heavily on SEO when their sales cycle needed paid search for immediate pipeline, and businesses pour budget into Google Ads in categories where nobody searches for what they sell. Both failures are strategic, and both are avoidable with an hour of honest analysis before any money moves.

What we cover in 45 minutes

Your unit economics

We start here because everything else depends on it. Average customer value, gross margin, close rate on inbound leads, and typical sales cycle length.

These four numbers determine your maximum viable cost per acquisition, and therefore which channels are even available to you. A business with a ₹15,000 average order value and 30% margin cannot afford a ₹4,000 cost per lead, no matter how good the campaign is. Working that out beforehand prevents a lot of wasted spend.

Where demand actually lives

Does search demand exist for what you sell, and at what volume? This is a research question with a factual answer, and it changes the entire strategy.

High search volume, high intent — paid search first, SEO in parallel for margin. The demand is already there; go capture it.

Low search volume, real need — social and content-led demand generation. Nobody is searching because they do not know the solution exists. Running Google Ads here produces almost no impressions and a lot of confusion.

High volume, brutal competition — long-tail and local SEO, plus paid on the specific high-intent modifiers you can afford. Competing head-on for the main term against companies with ten years of authority is a budget donation.

Your current baseline

If you have existing marketing, we look at it before recommending anything new. Often the fastest win is fixing what already exists rather than launching another channel.

We check: whether conversion tracking is actually correct, whether your site is technically indexable, where existing traffic comes from and what it does, and whether your ad accounts contain obvious waste. Broken conversion tracking is the single most common finding, and it invalidates every performance number you currently believe.

The recommendation

You leave with a specific answer, not a menu of services:

  • Which channel gets your budget first, and why that one
  • A realistic budget range for it to work — including if the answer is “more than you planned”
  • A 90-day sequence, in order, with what should be measurable by when
  • What to fix before spending anything on traffic
  • Which metrics to hold anyone accountable to

What we will tell you that most agencies will not

When your budget is too small. Some channels have a floor. Google Ads below roughly ₹25,000 a month cannot gather enough conversion data to optimise, so it stays permanently in a learning phase. We would rather tell you that than take the retainer and manage a campaign we know cannot work.

When the problem is not marketing. If your landing page does not explain what you do, if your pricing is unclear, or if nobody follows up on leads for three days, more traffic makes the problem more expensive rather than solving it. We have told prospects to fix their sales follow-up before spending another rupee on ads. It is not a fun conversation and it is usually the highest-ROI advice in the call.

When your timeline is unrealistic. SEO does not produce meaningful results in a month. Brand-building on social does not produce attributable leads in six weeks. If your board expects pipeline this quarter, that constrains the channel choice, and it is better to say so upfront than to discover it in month four.

When you should not hire an agency at all. Some businesses are better served by a competent in-house hire, or by one strategic engagement and self-execution. If that is you, we will say so.

Who this is useful for

  • Businesses spending on marketing without being able to attribute revenue to it
  • Companies that have cycled through two or three agencies without results
  • Founders about to spend their first significant marketing budget who want to avoid the obvious mistakes
  • In-house teams who want an outside read on their channel mix
  • Businesses whose leads have dried up and who do not know which part of the funnel broke

What happens next

If there is a fit, you get a written scope within two working days — deliverables, timelines, pricing, and the metrics we will be held to. No pressure to decide on the call, and no artificial deadline on the quote.

If there is not a fit, you keep the recommendation and the reasoning. Several businesses have taken our plan to their in-house team and executed it themselves. That is a legitimate outcome.

Pick a time that works, or send a WhatsApp message with a one-line description of your business and what you are trying to fix. We will tell you whether a call is worth your time before you book one.

Frequently asked questions

Is the consultation actually free, or is it a sales call?

It is free and it is also, obviously, how we find clients. The difference from a typical sales call is that you leave with a written channel recommendation and budget range you can act on independently — including handing it to another agency or your in-house team. We would rather be useful and lose the deal than waste both our time on a pitch.

What do I need to prepare?

Four numbers make the conversation far more useful: your average customer value, your rough close rate on inbound leads, your current monthly marketing spend, and your target for new customers per month. If you have Google Analytics or ad account access, view-only access beforehand lets us look at real data instead of speculating.

What if you decide you cannot help me?

We tell you, and we explain why. Common reasons: your budget is genuinely too small for the channel your category requires, your product needs positioning work before any amount of traffic will convert, or your sales process cannot handle more leads yet. In those cases we point you at what to fix first. Taking a retainer we do not believe in is bad for both of us.

Will you commit to a specific plan on the call?

We will give you a channel recommendation, a realistic budget range and a 90-day sequence on the call. A detailed scope with deliverables and pricing follows in writing within two working days, once we have looked properly at your analytics and competitive position.

Do you work with small businesses and startups?

Yes, with one caveat we are upfront about — some channels have a minimum viable spend below which they simply do not work. Google Ads below roughly ₹25,000 per month will not gather enough conversion data to optimise. If your budget is under that, we will tell you which channels do work at your level, and organic and local SEO are often the honest answer.

How quickly can you start if we go ahead?

Usually within one to two weeks of a signed scope. Technical SEO and paid audits start immediately. Content and creative production need a short onboarding for brand, tone and access to accounts and assets.
